LAU and RENELL’s Love in Perfect Timing
THE ADVENTURE THAT IS LAURENCE MARTIN BAUTISTA’s proposal to RENELL ANNE SICCION began as far back as October 2016. On a trip to Amsterdam with his mom, Lau already picked out an engagement ring from a historical diamond polishing factory, Coster Diamonds. Fast forward to August 2017 in Riyadh, the groom-to-be realized that the ring had to be adjusted in time for his proposal that would be taking place a month later. The ring had to be shipped to Hong Kong, instead of Saudi Arabia or the Philippines due to package insurance issues. Luckily, a Hong Kong based friend was able to receive the ring and bring it to Renell’s mom in Manila.
Unbeknownst his sweetheart, her engagement ring was cleverly concealed in a small appliance box, hidden in plain sight. Laurence later asked Renell to take the package with them to Europe under the guise of delivering it to a friend’s Vienna-based relative as a favor. The bride-to-be agreed without suspecting anything, and she hand-carried the package in her bag. She even surrendered it to Lau when they got to Paris.

Upon reaching Iceland on September 1, 2017—the planned proposal date where the groom was supposed to pop the question under the Northern Lights—things didn’t exactly go according to plan. Laurence received notice that their photo session/tour with a local agency got cancelled due to clouds obstructing the view of the sky. In a bid to keep things going, Lau decided to start their drive along Iceland, hoping that they would still be able to catch a glimpse of the lights and he could proceed with the proposal.
On September 4, 2017, the couple camped out near Skógafoss, one of the most celebrated waterfalls of Iceland. The next day, the pair woke up in their campervan with the best view imaginable of the majestic waterfall, complete with the morning sun shining on the water to form a double rainbow. There was no better time to ask Renell to marry him.
What’s more, NASA recorded a historical level of solar flare on that very same day. It felt like even the heavens were celebrating with them. The newly engaged couple also got to proceed with their Northern Lights photo tour a few days later.
