Despedida de Soltera
As the name suggests, it means goodbye to bachelorettehood. This is not a hen party. What’s the difference? The despedida de soltera includes the bride-to-be’s mom, aunts, lolas, and other ladies above her generation. So, expect this to be a lot tamer and probably, with a lot less booze. The oldies will give the bride-to-be gifts to prepare her for her wedding and honeymoon. Expect speeches.
The bride’s family usually hosts this with an intent to make it an all ladies dinner party. The men – daddy, kuya, or shoti, may attend the dinner portion and leave right before the speeches and ladies parlor games.
