Christian Garabiles and Richelle “Rich” Pagdatoon went from mutual friends to lovers after a single online interaction brought the two together. After five years of harmony, camaraderie and steadfast dedication, Christian and Rich finally paint their proposal scene for us with their profound way with words. Instant Click! – How their love story began
Sometimes, all it takes is a single interaction (or in this case, a reaction) online for a conversation to start. The same can be said for Christian and Richelle, who were mere acquaintances that met at a mutual friend’s debut back in 2013. Christian admitted to having a crush on Rich even before the party, as he had seen her around school. However, she was already seeing someone else at the time – so the two left the party separately, not knowing what the future would bring.
Fast forward to 2018 – the two are immensely focused on their work and studies, but are also both finally single. It was only when Richelle was scrolling through her Facebook feed that she noticed a post from Christian. She didn’t realize she had added Christian as a friend since 2013! She decided to react to one of his posts – a small gesture that instantly caught Christian’s attention. He DMed her immediately so they could catch up, and the pair grew closer, talking to each other every day until their first date, where Richelle describes her time with him as “never a dull moment” – and the rest is history!

What Richelle believed would be a simple celebration of their fifth anniversary turned out to be the most memorable day of her life. They had booked their stay at The Cabin Resorts, where the couple found a lovely spot to take photos and video reels of their trip. Christian then subtly asked Rich to turn around so he could photograph her back with the view; and as she turned to face him again, there he was, already kneeling on the ground with the ring in hand! Cue a quick laugh of disbelief before the tears started flowing, and Rich says “yes” right away, dubbing it as “the easiest decision I’ve ever made”!

Christian eagerly shares his advice to all gentlemen considering a proposal:
- Make sure your decision is not just based on the depths of your emotions. Rather, it’s based on a foundation of maturity and the possibilities for mutual growth as persons. One must look outward and think logically, so as not to be swayed simply by feelings alone.
- Consider the future, imagining yourself alongside your sweetheart, discussing your dreams and mapping the direction of your life’s journey together. The future, though often a broad topic, can be brought into focus when partners communicate effectively with each other, to make sure their dreams and plans are aligned and don’t conflict with one another.
- You can envision her as someone who uplifts, inspires, and compliments your own growth. A relationship after all works both ways, and if your partner is someone you have to keep pulling up, or in turn, pulls you down, then perhaps there are things you must work out before taking the next step.
For Christian, it was the emotional and mental clarity in total sync with himself and his partner that led to the decision. It is that perfect harmony needed to embark on “this historic adventure of love and steadfast dedication!”
