Takaya and Chloe’s Unforgettable Destination Wedding in Bohol

Chloe Ramirez and Takaya Miki’s love story transcends borders. It began in Japan, where they met in 2017. Takaya pursued a full-time degree, and Chloe arrived as an exchange student. Their connection was immediate and deepened through a shared group of friends. “By the second semester, we decided to take our friendship a step further and started dating,” Takaya recalled. Little did they know that it would culminate in a beautiful beach destination wedding a few years later.

Their relationship endured the challenges of long-distance love, flying between countries to be together. They would be together when they could– spending Christmas in New York, enjoying beach days in El Nido, even exploring Taipei through food trips. “We did all we could to make sure we made enough time and effort for each other. And I think it paid off,” said Takaya.

In 2019, after overcoming the difficulties of long-distance, they reunited in Japan. Takaya popped the question to Chloe in December 2021, in a swoon-worthy proposal atop the beautiful alps of Japan. (Check out their proposal story here!)

A Dream Destination Wedding on The Beaches of Bohol

Chloe and Takaya chose to have a destination wedding to celebrate their love. They wanted their guests, who flew in from all over the world, to experience the beauty of the Philippines. “Beachy! Considering many of our guests were flying from all over the world, we wanted to put the Philippines’ best foot forward and hold everything by the beach,” Chloe explained.

Their wedding date, December 29, 2023, was set, and the ceremony took place at Our Lady of Assumption Dauis. The reception followed at South Palms Resort, now known as Oceanica, offering a stunning beachfront setting.

Pastel Perfection for the Wedding

For their color motif, they chose pastels. “Nothing too specific. We just wanted everyone to be there,” Chloe said. The soft hues complemented the beachy theme, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The guests were also encouraged to dress for the beach.

Overcoming the Challenges of a Destination Wedding

Planning a destination wedding from abroad presented its own set of challenges. “Considering we were preparing from abroad, that in itself was a challenge,” Takaya shared. However, with the help of Themes and Motifs and their dedicated team, they navigated the preparations smoothly. “Thankfully, Themes and Motifs and the whole team were there to help us every step of the way,” Chloe added.

The Big Day: A Celebration to Remember

The couple’s wedding day was filled with unforgettable moments. The festivities began with a pre-wedding Loboc River Luncheon Cruise, setting the tone for the celebration. The ceremony at Our Lady of Assumption Dauis was intimate and emotional, with Chloe and Takaya exchanging vows surrounded by loved ones.

The reception at Oceanica was a dream come true. Guests enjoyed the beachside setting, delicious food, and heartfelt speeches. “Everything from the pre-wedding Loboc River Luncheon Cruise, to the lovely church ceremony, to the beach reception of our dreams, and even to the island-hopping early the next day. We still get goosebumps just thinking about it,” Chloe shared.

Lessons Learned

Planning their destination wedding taught Chloe and Takaya valuable lessons. “Communication is key. Whether it’s with your soon-to-be-spouse, with the planner, with your parents, or with the suppliers, clear communication definitely aided in making everything run smoothly all throughout,” Chloe emphasized.

Advice for Future Couples

For couples planning their own destination wedding, Chloe and Takaya have some words of wisdom. It definitely wasn’t easy, but they held onto these two things to make things smoother:

  1. Know Your Priorities: “Our priority was making sure all our loved ones could come, and that they had the best of times. By putting this at a pedestal, it made our experience and expectations easier to manage,” Takaya advised.
  2. Enjoy the Day: “All that hard work preparing, it’s best if you can just let everything run its course and enjoy your hard work. Besides, you’ll have people there with you making sure everything turns out fine. So enjoy it. Cherish it to the fullest because a marriage happens once in a lifetime!” Chloe encouraged.

An Inspirational Journey

Chloe and Takaya’s destination wedding is a testament to the power of love and dedication. Their story inspires other couples to pursue their dream weddings, no matter the challenges. By choosing a destination wedding, they created a memorable experience for themselves and their guests, showcasing the beauty of the Philippines and their enduring love.

Their journey from long-distance love to a beautiful destination wedding proves that with effort, communication, and a clear vision, anything is possible. Chloe and Takaya’s story is a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that the most important thing is to cherish every moment with your partner.
